Tasneem Jowher, also known by the spellings Tasneem Johar and Tasneem Jauhar, is an Urdu poet based in Hyderabad, India. Her work is primarily associated with the vibrant and dynamic literary landscape of the city, particularly within women’s literary circles.

Tasneem Jowher’s most significant contribution lies in her role as a prominent voice within the community of female Urdu poets in Hyderabad. She is a key member of Mehfil-e-Khawateen, a well-known literary organisation that provides a platform for women writers to share their work and get published. The organisation is a testament to the thriving tradition of women’s poetry in the region, a legacy to which she is actively a part.

Her poetic style is distinguished by her focus on humorous poetry. In a genre often dominated by serious or romantic themes, her work stands out for its witty and satirical take on life and societal issues. She is noted for her sharp wit and insightful commentary, which she delivers through her verses. She is a popular presence at mushairas (poetry recitals) and literary events. She is acknowledged as one of the “top literary personalities” in Hyderabad and has served as a compere (master of ceremonies) at the prestigious Hyderabad Literary Festival (HLF). She also participated in the Women’s Poetry Session for International Women’s Day organised by MANUU.

Several of her ghazals have been composed and sung by performers such as Diwakar Meena, Mala Bararia and Pooja Gaitonde (e.g., “Ek Khushboo-e-Shanasa…”, “Dawa banta gaya dard-e-nihān”, “Dhoop kya chandni kya”).

She studied at Osmania University and later became the Principal of a school in Hyderabad.
